Architect, he was among the protagonists of Alchimia and Memphis. He has designed furniture for the best-known Italian and European companies and was responsible for Olivetti Design from 1988 to 2002. He has realized architectural projects in Italy and around the world including residential, industrial, executive and cultural buildings. He has designed buildings and exhibition systems for museums such as the Milan Triennale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Neues Museum in Berlin, and the Galleria d'Italia in Milan. In 2000 he was awarded the honorary title of Officer of the Italian Republic by President Ciampi. In 2001 he was appointed full professor at the IAUV in Venice. In 2006 he received an Honorary Degree from Kingston University. Since 2008 he has been Professor at the Faculty of Design at the Politecnico di Milano and Academic at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome. In 2018, he was editor of "Domus" magazine.
