In all stories there is an almost magical junction where the past is conveyed into the future and tradition works together with innovation.
BOTTEGA GHIANDA, WITH ITS CENTURIES-OLD HISTORY AND RECOGNISED EXCELLENCE IN CABINETMAKING, IS LOCATED AT ONE OF THESE MAGICAL TRANSITION POINTS.
The past provides craftsmanship nourished by passion, expertise, a taste for a job well done and an in-depth knowledge of the material (wood) on which Bottega Ghianda partners have practiced their flair and ingenuity.
Wood artist Romeo Sozzi introduced his taste for innovation and experimentation. The legacy of the past was not used to make Bottega Ghianda a mausoleum of its noble history, but a living and productive company, capable of inventing new technical and formal solutions. These included combining wood with other materials which are not seen as consistent with wood’s aromas, colours and malleability.
Luigi (o mi amate voi)
GAETANO PESCE for BOTTEGA GHIANDA
This year, Bottega Ghianda presents a daring operation: Sozzi contacted Master Gaetano Pesce to re-interpret the Luigi (o mi amate voi) bookcase prototype created in the early 1980s but long out of production. The innovation combines the satin-finished black beechwood structure with coloured resin plates, illuminated by an LED light that provides a translucence with magical resonances. Pesce enlightens Bottega Ghianda.
Different in history and training, Sozzi and Pesce share a taste for intellectual curiosity, a refusal to settle for what is already made and known, the courage to explore new possibilities and a willingness to deal with materials (wood for Pesce, resin for Sozzi) that are far from the usual, in an unexpected and surprising alchemy.
"Project dated 1982 already realised in a few prototypes. This object is very contemporary and creative. An example of modular shelves that, if not needed, can be easily folded down to form a light structure useful for the space they inhabit".
A magical place dedicated to the love of wood and craftsmanship.
Bottega Ghianda is part of the narrow and revered circle of workshops, being at the forefront for the art of fine woodworking, within the world. It was founded two centuries ago and cultivated a precise vocation : enable exceptional designers to transform their creative vision into reality thanks to the mastery of its craftsmen.
